The Good Used For Bad

One of the main topics in Frankenstein is how scientific knowledge can be used for no good. As we know Dr. Frankenstein scientific ambitions were to create a human. and he did. What came of it we all know. I saw a piece on "60 Minutes" about people who are dying were promised by medical conman that stem cells would cure any disease. While watching this I thought of how science can be used for something bad like in Frankenstein. In this case medical science was being used to deceive sick people.

  1. I would have to disagree. Dr. Frankenstein's intentions were good. Victor stated in the novel that he wanted to rid the world of disease and he didn't even care about the money. Any advance in the scientific field gives rise to many new discoveries. Also, the person promising that stem cells could cure any disease maybe wanted to give a sense of hope. It is not yet proven that they can, but I believe that there is potential. Stem cells are derived from an early stage of embryonic development where cells are predetermined and unspecialized. This way they can function in any way necessary. You can read more at: http://stemcells.nih.gov/info/basics/basics3.asp
